Frequently Asked Questions

Why Cultivate Compassion?

Cultivating compassion goes beyond feeling more empathy and concern for others. It develops the strength to be with suffering, the courage to take compassionate action, and the resilience to prevent compassion fatigue. These qualities support a wide range of goals, from improving personal relationships to making a positive difference in the world. Compassion cultivation can also support one’s own health, happiness, and well-being. Preliminary research suggests that CCT and similar programs can increase self-compassion and self-care, reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and enhance connection with others.

Who participates in Compassion Cultivation Training™ (CCT)?

CCT is designed to support anyone who wants to cultivate compassion for themselves and for others. This includes parents, caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals, therapists, executives, public servants, and people in a wide range of professions and life contexts.

How much meditation experience is required?

No previous meditation experience is required, although willingness to practice daily meditation is a key component of the training. The effects of meditation are dose dependent, so the more engaged you are with your practice, the more likely it is that you will notice residual benefits.

I want to enroll in a CCT course but I don't see one currently offered near me. How do I help make that happen?

If you are enthusiastic about attending CCT but do not see a course listed near you, please submit a request for a course in your area here We prefer to have at least ten participants in order to offer CCT, so your assistance with getting the word out is tremendously helpful. Please share your interest in CCT with friends, family, and colleagues and encourage them to fill out the above form as well. With greater interest, the likelihood will increase that we’ll be able to offer a course in your area. Additionally, if you have access to a suitable commercial space where we might offer the course, or if you know someone who may, please let us know.

I want to register for CCT but I will miss one or two classes. Is that okay?

We strongly recommend that students attend all classes. If you plan on missing more than one class, we advise to wait and register for a course at a time when you’ll be able to attend all sessions. If you’ve already registered and know you will miss a class in advance, please contact us here.

Does taking the CCT course certify you to teach CCT?

No, Certified CCT Teachers have undergone a part-time professional training program and have been supervised by a Senior Teacher before becoming certified to teach the eight week protocol to others without supervision. – Learn more about the CCT Teacher Training Program and the newly launched Compassion Institute here.

Are CEUs available for taking the Compassion Cultivation Training course?
